Tonaht was a branding assignment in The Iceland Academy of the Arts, but with a twist. The branding process began with my designing a typeface from another existing typeface. I made the display face Sniðagrind, inspired by Gateway, by designer Stephan Müller. Like Gateway, the typeface was made in two versions for both small and large sizes, A1/A2 and B1/B2.

From this typeface I then designed a logo for a fictional electronic music company, 'Tonaht', using the same forms. I then expanded the idea of the company to combine music and fashion, scent and other aspects of an alternative lifestyle within one brand of a somewhat fascist nature.

All visual material for the brand was then designed - I designed one 'collection' for the brand, which included album cover illustrations, fashion, perfume etc. using the same form principles as the original typeface was made, under one theme which was simply 'sex'. Finally a design manual with type and logo specimens was created for the brand, with specifications for the application of the design elements.
